Exercise for Life Exercise for Life is a multidisciplinary program that empowers people to reach their fitness goals. Our approach is to provide tailored allied health solutions for each individual having difficulties with attaining or maintaining fitness levels.
Who is the program is for?
It is aimed at people:
· With a sedentary lifestyle that need to know how to develop and sustain good exercise habits.
· With, or at risk of chronic health conditions including diabetes, heart disease, obesity, hypertension, dyslipidaemia, arthritis, peripheral vascular disease and COPD.
· Who want to gain in-depth knowledge and understanding of the most effective ways to exercise to meet their goals.
What do the participants do?
Key Facets of the Course include:
· Evaluation their own physical activity levels and how they fit into the recommended guidelines;
· Provision of, and Education with a pedometer and log sheet, with strategies to increase each Patient’s current average daily steps by 10%;
· Education on monitoring their heart rate during exercise, and assess their aerobic fitness by performing a Step Test;
· Developing a personalised ‘Physical Activity Plan’ aimed at meeting each patient’s individual goals related to strength, endurance and flexibility.
Who runs the interactive clinic?
Mark Chadderton-- Exercise Physiologist, has post-graduate training in fitness instruction and assessment in those with chronic health conditions. Sessions are also undertaken by our Clinical Psychologist, Dietician and Physiotherapist - over 50 years combined clinical experience.
How long and what’s covered?
This is a two-day interactive clinic:
Day One
Exercise and Physical Activity – Exercise Physiologist
Healthy Eating and Nutrition for Exercise - Dietician
Low-Back Pain Prevention - Physiotherapist Exercise Principles and Self monitoring – Exercise Physiologist
Day Two
Exercise and Chronic Health Conditions – Exercise Physiologist
Goal Setting and Overcoming Barriers - Psychologist
Activities of Daily Living Ergonomics – Occupational Therapist
Becoming More Active – Exercise Physiologist
On-going component:
Small group classes and individual consultations with appropriate health professional as needed
